Hello, my name is Lev Burstein. I am an 12th grade student at Science Leadership Academy, a public high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Five years ago, I started a hot sauce company called Hot Sauce for Heat. I chose this name because a portion of the proceeds from the sale of our hot sauce goes towards the heating bills of people who can’t afford heat in the winter in my hometown of Philadelphia. In my city, there are approximately 19,000 households that struggle to pay their annual heating bills. Our mission is to reduce that number and one day get it to ZERO!
I began selling our hot sauce at farmers’ markets and street fairs. Originally Hot Sauce For Heat was just hot sauce I made in a blender at home with my father. Over time people became very fond of my company and too many orders (for our capacity) were placed which made it challenging to keep up with. Because of this, we hired a co-packer to handle all of our manufacturing and bottling. This was a great decision for our company; it has been a huge stepping stone to taking Hot Sauce for Heat to the next level.
Our goal is to expand our online and retail presence, product selection, and develop an urban farming program in schools. If you have any questions, comments, ideas or want to get into contact with me about future collaboration my information is below:
